Madhya Pradesh: Farmers unable to sell Onions due to lockdown
Share:

Lockdown has been implemented to prevent the spread of Corona virus across the country. But due to this, onion farmers are suffering terrible losses. Onion farmers are being forced to sell onions at less than the cost of the crop due to lockdown reaching markets and mandis being closed. Actually, onion production was good this year, but with the closure of mandis, farmers are gradually moving towards deep financial crisis. Also, due to lack of buyers and unseasonal rains, the possibility of crop damage is also increasing.

At the same time, farmers of Sanwar, Mhow, Depalpur and Indore have claimed that they fixed the price of the crop this week at six to seven rupees per kg due to lack of buyers. Farmers told that the cost of the crop itself is eight to nine rupees per kg, but we have no other way, so we were forced to sell the crop at this price. Dilip Mukati, a farmer from Kanadia village in Indore district who has 500 bags of stock. They have told that I have not been able to sell even a bag. Some buyers come to the fields and ask me to pay a price of seven to eight rupees per kg, which is very less than the cost.

Mukati has said that farmers have no choice, they have only two ways, either sell their crops at the price they are getting. Or in the open sky, watching his crop ruin. The farmers also claimed that due to the increasing presence of middlemen in the region, the farmers have suffered heavy losses amid the lockdown.
