Hyderabad: In a tragic incident in Telangana's Jogulamba Gadwal district, a private bus en route to Chittoor caught fire after overturning, resulting in the death of one woman passenger. The mishap took place around 3 am on Saturday when the Jagan Amazon travel bus, traveling from Hyderabad to Chittoor, met with the unfortunate accident. The driver reportedly lost control of the bus, leading to the overturning and subsequent fire.

The police investigation revealed that the driver, who allegedly fell asleep, was unable to maintain control of the vehicle, resulting in the fatal accident. Fortunately, most passengers managed to evacuate the bus quickly. However, one woman passenger was unable to exit in time, as her hand got stuck, leading to her tragic demise in the fire. The identity of the deceased woman is yet to be established. A case has been registered, and further investigations are underway.

Despite a recent decrease in the overall number of road accidents in Telangana, the fatality rate has seen an alarming surge, according to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways' November 2023 report. The statistics indicate a reduction in accidents from 22,230 in 2018 to 21,619 in 2022. However, the number of fatalities increased significantly from 2,064 in 2018 to 3,010 in 2022, reflecting a concerning 45.8% rise in road-related deaths over the past five years.
