Chennai: An electronic scooter fitted for night charging suddenly exploded in Tamil Nadu's Vellore district. Father and daughter were killed in the blast. Both were found dead in the bathroom of the house where both were hiding to escape the smoke. The deceased was father Durai Verma, 49, and daughter, 13-year-old Preeti. The incident took place on Friday (March 25, 2022).

According to media reports, Durai Verma had parked his scooter near a petrol bike. It exploded at about 2 a.m. The fire also broke out in a bike parked nearby and gradually it engulfed the house as well. There was no proper way of getting smoke into the house. Police suspect that the father and daughter had run towards the bathroom as the smoke was less visible. The neighbours informed the fire department. By then, the father and daughter had died. The bodies of both have been taken into custody and sent for post-mortem.

The police have registered a case. The deceased, Durai Verma, was a photographer by profession. His wife died a few years ago. There is a son left in his family who was staying at the house of a neighbour of the same locality on the night of the incident.
