Dehradun: The forest fires in Uttarakhand are taking a huge form. Forest fires broke out at 88 places in the last 24 hours. Of these, 45 places in Garhwal and 32 in Kumaon caught fire. Protected wildlife sanctuaries were also not untouched by fire. There were fire incidents in 11 wildlife sanctuaries on Monday. At the request of the forest department, the Disaster Management Secretary has appealed to the collectors to extend all possible help in extinguishing the fire.

At the same time, the forest fire around the Uttarkashi district headquarters is becoming uncontrolled. At around 4.15 pm on Sunday, a sudden forest fire broke out on the Varunawat mountain. In the evening, the fire went unchecked and spread over the buffer zone, including the entire Varunawat top. As the fire moved towards Indra Colony and Gufiyara, teams of the forest department, SDRF, police, fire service and disaster management department prevented the fire from spreading to the residential township. A forest worker has been charred to death while the fire was under control and is undergoing treatment at the district hospital.

On the news of the forest department, SDRF, fire service and disaster management department team rushed to the spot due to the news of the forest fire due to the residential settlement and petrol pump below, but due to the standing mountain, the team could not climb the mountain. Later, somehow the team extinguished the fire with tree twigs to prevent the fire from spreading towards the petrol pump including Indra Colony. Due to this, the right hand, cheek and ear of Bhajan Singh Rana, a daily forest worker of the forest department, were burnt, who was taken to the district hospital. Forest range officer Barahat Ravindra Pundir said that on Sunday day, the fire had spread over Gufiyara, which had gone up to Varunavat Top. Being a sloping forest area, the fire went downhill. A team of the forest department was deployed to ensure that fire did not reach residential houses in Indra Colony and Gufiyara.
