Kerala Police have summoned film director Balachandra to record his testimony as part of their investigation into the actress's abduction. Kumar has been summoned by the police investigation team to appear before the magistrate on January 12.

Last week, Kumar said that he saw the assault on the actress in the car shortly after extremely renowned actor Dileep was released on bail in the case. Kumar further stated that the photos were sent to the actor by a VIP, and that he was aware of the situation. Only the trial court has seen the visuals thus far.

The Kerala government filed a petition before the Supreme Court on Wednesday, just after Kumar's confession became public, asking for six additional months to conclude the case's trial. The Supreme Court granted an extension to finish the trial until February 16, 2022 in September, the third time it has done so.

On February 17, 2017, the actress was kidnapped and assaulted in a moving car in Kochi, and Dileep was arrested in connection with the crime in July 2017. He was detained for many weeks before being released on bail. He has been charged with "revenge crime" as a co-conspirator in the case.
