New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has given great relief to NRIs and foreign visitors. Under the Finance Ministry, the CBDT has decided that NRIs and foreign visitors who arrived in the country before 22 March 2020 and have not been able to return on time, will be given relief in the matter of tax collection or tax concession as a resident.

The rule is that NRIs have to stay out of India for a certain number of days (at least 180 days) to take advantage of tax related rules. But there were many people who came to India before 22 March, but could not go abroad before the end of the financial year i.e. before 31 March 2020, the days from 22 to 31 will not be counted for them, stay in India. Discount will be given on the duration of that day.
