Indore: On August 12, Indore Police took action by registering a First Information Report (FIR) against the handlers of X (formerly Twitter) accounts belonging to Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath, and former Union Minister Arun Yadav. This move followed warnings from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) about legal repercussions for the social media posts made by these leaders, accusing the BJP government of corruption.

The Indore Police Commissioner issued a statement late on August 12, revealing that Nimesh Pathak, the legal cell convenor of the local BJP, filed a complaint. The complaint pertained to a false letter attributed to an individual named Gyanendra Awasthi that was circulated on social media. The letter claimed that contractors across the state were obligated to pay a 50 percent commission.

Based on the complaint, a case has been filed against Awasthi and the "handlers" of the X accounts associated with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Kamal Nath, and Arun Yadav at the Sanyogitaganj police station. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Ramsanehi Mishra explained that an FIR was lodged at the Sanyogitaganj police station in Indore against the X "handles" of the three Congress leaders. The case has been registered under sections 420 (cheating) and 469 (forgery with intent to harm reputation) of the Indian Penal Code.

Pathak, who made the allegations, asserted that Congress leaders had collaborated to tarnish the image of the state government and the BJP party. They did so by sharing misleading social media posts that accused the BJP leadership in the state of corruption.

In response to the police's actions, MP Congress President Kamal Nath commented, "Hundreds of corruption cases have taken place in the state. How many cases are they going to file? They are trying to create a false agenda, and people understand it very well."

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's X post highlighted alleged coercive practices targeting contractors in Madhya Pradesh. She stated, "The Union of Contractors in Madhya Pradesh has written a letter to the Chief Justice of the High Court complaining that payment is received only after paying 50% commission in the state. The corrupt BJP government in Karnataka used to collect 40% commission. In Madhya Pradesh, BJP has gone ahead by breaking its own record of corruption. The people of Karnataka ousted the government with 40% commission, now the people of Madhya Pradesh will remove the BJP government with 50% commission from power," Priyanka Gandhi Vadra posted on Friday.
