Islamabad: Pakistan's capital Islamabad witnessed a controversy some time ago when land allotted to the Hindu community was cancelled. Hindu temples, crematoriums and community centres were to be constructed on this land. However, the land has once been allotted to the Hindu community following criticism on the issue.

According to media reports, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) disclosed before the court last Monday during a hearing in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) that the land allotted to the Hindu community had been cancelled. CDA's lawyer Javed Iqbal told the court that the civic agency had cancelled the land for the Hindu community only in February this year as construction could not start.

According to reports, 0.5 acres of land in Islamabad was allotted to the Hindu community in 2016. Hindu temples, cremation grounds and community centres were to be built on this land. The news of the cancellation of land allotment had sparked outrage from the Hindu community on Pakistani social media and many criticized the CDA's move. It was also said that the CDA should withdraw this notification.
