Kolkata: Due to heavy rains these days in the eastern part of the country, severe flood situation has arisen. Malda, Murshidabad and Howrah districts in West Bengal have been badly affected by the floods. In Malda itself, more than two lakh people are stranded in floods. Thousands of bigha farming land have been hit by floods. Minister of State Javed Khan will visit the flood-affected areas. Apart from this, the situation is worsened by the Damodar river dam breakage in Murshidabad. Many areas have been submerged.

On the other hand, the flood situation in Udyanarayanpur of Howrah district is getting worse. Malda district has been completely flooded due to continuous rains for the last one week, the breaking of the dam and opening of 109 gates from Farakka barrage. The water level of rivers like Ganga, Phulhar, Kalindi, Mahananda etc. has increased considerably. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said that due to dredging at the Farakka barrage at the right time, Bihar would not get flooded.

Mamata also accused the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) of releasing water from the dam without informing about the flood situation in some districts of Bengal. Mamata said, "I and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had raised this issue earlier. We may be anti-political but there is a consensus on the issue of Farakka". She accused the Center of being insensitive.
