Washington: After arriving at the incorrect address, police in the US state of New Mexico released video on Friday showing them shooting a man dead.
On April 5, three officers knocked on the wrong house's door, and the Farmington Police Department released 911 audio and body camera footage of the incident.

The officers were responding to a report of domestic violence from 5308 Valley View Avenue, but video shows them arriving at a residence with the address marked "5305."

The release was commanded by Chief Steve Hebbe in accordance with state law "and out of a desire to be forthcoming and transparent with the Farmington community, the general public, and the news media," the department said in a statement.

The officers can be seen repeatedly knocking on the door while introducing themselves in the video.
The officers then discuss whether they are at the wrong house and ask dispatch for confirmation of the address.

A short while later, a man opens the door, points a gun at the officers, and they immediately draw and fire.
Police reported that the victim, Robert Dotson, passed away there.

A minute or so later, Dotson's wife, who was later identified, knocks on the door, and more shots are exchanged. Police claimed she shot at the officers with a gun.

The three officers' names, which were withheld from the video and audio, according to the department, could not be made public because the investigation was still ongoing.

The reason the officers approached the incorrect address is still a mystery; they are on paid leave while the matter is being investigated, according to the police.
Dotson's daughter can be heard sobbing in one of the 911 audio files that have been made public before announcing that her mother was screaming and that her father had been shot.

The men and women of the Farmington Police Department "all of us" understand the seriousness of this incident, Hebbe said.

We would like to once more offer the Dotson family our condolences, and as your police chief, I would like to express how deeply sorry I am that this tragedy occurred.
