Ahmedabad: More than 1,000 Pakistani Hindu refugees are set to vote for the first time in the Gujarat assembly elections this time. 1,032 such refugees have been given citizenship of India. This citizenship has been given by the Ahmedabad Collector in the last 5 years. This year, these people will play their role in electing the new government of the state for the first time. In such a situation, the debate has also intensified about how much difference their voting will make in the results of Ahmedabad.

Since 2016, the Ahmedabad collector's office has granted Indian citizenship to 1,032 Hindus from Pakistan. Being a minority, there were a lot of atrocities on these people in Pakistan. Forced by this, these people left their country and somehow came to India after saving their lives and religion. According to gadgets from 2016 and  2018, collectors of Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Bhuj have the right to submit Indian citizenship documents.

This document is given to Hindus, Sikhs, Christians and Parsis who have come to India after being tortured from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. However, for this, approval has to be taken from the central and state intelligence agencies. State Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi had on August 22 handed over certificates of Indian citizenship to 40 Hindu refugees from Pakistan.
