JAMSHEDPUR:  Ritu Mukhi, a girl who committed self immollation after being forced to undress because she was suspected of cheating on her school's final test, died on Thursday night. On October 14, the girl, a class IX student at Jamshedpur's Saradamoni Girls' School, lit herself on fire after coming home.

She was receiving care at Jamshedpur's Tata Main Hospital (TMH). Over the student's death, the locals are indignant. The district government has sent security personnel from the hospital to the cremation site in response to the mounting tension. The funeral will take place on Friday in the afternoon.

Vijaya Jadhav, the deputy commissioner for Jamshedpur, arrived at TMH after learning of the student's death. A medical board was set up, and the deceased's post-mortem was carried out that very same evening.

After learning of the event, Chief Minister Hemant Soren gave the Deputy Commissioner orders to assist the victim's family in whatever way possible and treat the girl well.
The teacher who had the girl's garments removed to search for any hidden notes that might have been used for exam copying has been detained by the police, Chandra Das. Geeta Rani Mahato, the principal, has been placed on leave.
The victim said that the teacher struck her in front of everyone after accusing her of cheating on the terminal exam. She forced her to remove her clothing in front of everyone so that she could be searched despite her objections.

She was taken to the principal's office even though there were no notes on her. She was ashamed and embarrassed by the occurrence, so she sent her sisters to a neighbor's house before returning home later that evening and setting herself on fire.

The family and the neighbours arrived at the scene after hearing her screams. She was taken to TMH in a critical condition after the fire was put out by pouring water.
