Montreal: Following Canada's controversial decision to send part of a Russian natural gas pipeline back to Germany, Canada's foreign minister and his German counterpart will attend a public event in Montreal today.

According to the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal will host a "fireside chat" with German Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Beerbock. Melanie Jolie will take part.

The two ministers will discuss the effects of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the war on energy and food prices during a press conference ahead of their talks.

Canada announced in July that it would exempt a Canadian business from Russian sanctions and allow the export to Germany of six turbines that are currently undergoing maintenance in Montreal and are a part of the Nord Stream 1 pipeline that will run to Russia. connects to Germany.

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his displeasure at Canada's decision and considered it unacceptable.
