Jaishankar said that the British ruler had taken away from India a property worth $ 45 trillion in current value during the Colonial Rule. The Foreign Minister said this while addressing the Atlantic Council in Washington DC in Washington. During his address, he discussed the situation of India in the world perspective.

He said that "the British came to India in the mid-18th century. An economic study tried to understand how much property the British had taken from India. The study concluded that the British rulers had looted $ 45 trillion in assets from India". Jaishankar said that "India suffered 'insults' for two consecutive centuries during Britain's colonial rule". The Foreign Minister said, "India has endured two centuries of insults from the West which came to India in the middle of the 18th century."
