ANKARA: Russia's Foreign Ministry stated on Wednesday that Russian FM Sergei Lavrov and his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba will meet in Turkey on Thursday. According to the BBC report, this will be the first encounter between the two presidents since Russia's invasion of Ukraine began on February 24.
On Wednesday morning, Russian state-owned news agency RIA Novosti quoted Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova as saying that Lavrov will attend an international diplomatic gathering in Antalya and that his "interaction" with Kuleba will take place there.
Turkey's Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu, proposed convening the meeting in a trilateral arrangement, with Cavusoglu, Kuleba, and Lavrov at the table. The meeting will take place on Thursday, while the diplomatic forum will take place on Friday, according to reports.
So far, peace talks between Russia and Ukraine have proved difficult, with no firm deal reached.
