Hyderabad: The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) on Tuesday night apprehended a Tanzanian national at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, seizing 1389.100 grammes of Heroin worth Rs 11.53 crore from his hands.
The person apprehended under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 landed in India from Abu Dhabi's Johannesburg on April 26 and was placed into judicial custody, according to officials.
"When questioned, the passenger revealed that he had taken 'Heroin' capsules. The Passenger was taken to the Magistrate's office right away, and after receiving permission, he was admitted to a hospital and placed under Medical Supervision for six days "officials stated. The accused possessed a total of 108 'Heroin' capsules wrapped in adhesive transparent tape. "During the inquiry, it was identified that he consumed the capsules in Tanzania," the officials added.
Heroin weighing 1389.100 kilos, valued at about Rs 11.53 crore on the international grey market, was recovered after the capsules were opened. The passenger was arrested yesterday under the NDPS Act, 1985, and the court remanded him in judicial detention. More investigation is underway.
