KOLKATA: Five individuals were arrested by the Kolkata Police's detective department (DD) on Tuesday as part of a forgery ring located in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh.

Shivam Pande, Rohit Kumar Gupta, Jitendar Kumar, Avishek Kumar Gautam, and Uma Kanti Yadav have been detained. All are residents of Ghazipur. They pretended to be high-ranking Indian Army officials and went around the country, duping individuals out of lakhs of rupees by offering them jobs in the defence forces. Kolkata was their most recent stop.

According to police, their method included earning the trust of job seekers by wearing fake identity cards and fake paperwork connected to appointments with the defence services, as well as providing contact numbers to the job seekers. They would vanish after receiving money, and the contact numbers they provided became inaccessible as well.

According to a top city police officer, certain complaints were recently filed at the New Market Police Station in central Kolkata, and the inquiry was taken over by detective department officials. Finally, the detective department officials apprehended the five suspects in front of a well-known hotel.
