Lucknow: Former Union Minister Ajay Singh Chahar, who lives in Agra, has died. He had been ill for a few days. At the age of 70, Ajay Singh breathed his last at his residence in Gurugram, Haryana on Tuesday. Agra social activist Arvind Chahar has given information in this regard. Ajay Singh Chahar was originally a resident of village Jaingara under Kiravali tehsil. He was born on 15 August 1950.
At that time his father Captain Bhagwan Singh was DM of Bulandshahr. Graduated from St. Stephen's College in Delhi and masters degree in New Zealand. After this he was a publicity and promotion officer in television in New Zealand. In Fiji, he served as Senior Deputy Editor in the Fiji Times newspaper. Along with this, he was the editor of Kisan Trust's weekly newspaper Asli Bharat published from Delhi from 1980 to 1992. He also served in several other media institutions. Ajay Singh came into politics from journalism. He was a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council from 1986 to 1989. He then won the election from Agra Lok Sabha seat in 1989 and held the post of Deputy Railway Minister in the VP Singh government. He ran the Lashkar Express from Agra to Mumbai. A coach factory was approved in Achnera, which could not be established due to the fall of the government.
Giving information, former Union minister's friend Dharamvir Singh Chahar said that Ajay Singh started the Taj Mahotsav in Agra. His father Captain Bhagwan Singh was an ambassador in Fiji. He himself was the High Commissioner of India to Fiji between 2005 and 2007. He was also the head of the All India Jat Mahasabha. The residents of Agra have mourned the death of Ajay Singh.
