New Delhi: Former Delhi CM and Congress veteran Sheila Dikshit passed away in Delhi on Saturday afternoon. She was 81 years old and had been ill for a long time. Her last rites will be held today (July 21) at 2:30 p.m. at Nigambodh Ghat in Delhi. Earlier, her mortal remains will be kept at the Congress headquarters from 12 noon to 1 pm for the last darshan. The government has declared a two-day state mourning in Delhi.
Sheila Dikshit, who was battling the disease, was admitted to Delhi's Escort Hospital on Saturday morning. Hospital authorities said Sheila Dikshit was brought to the hospital after a heart attack. She suffered a heart attack again after her condition improved. She passed away at 3:55 p.m. Prime Minister Modi and UPA Chairman Sonia Gandhi arrived at her residence in Nizamuddin on Saturday to make a final visit to sheila Dikshit's body. Delhi Congress and BJP leaders had reached her residence.
President Ram Nath Kovind has condoled her demise and said that she had transformed the national capital Delhi during her reign. PM Modi also credited her with a commendable contribution to Delhi's development. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal lamented that Dixit's contribution to the development of the city will always be remembered.
