Islamabad: Pakistan on Thursday made an embarrassing record with the arrest of former PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. This is the first time in the country's history that two former PMs and a former president have been imprisoned. According to a report by Urdu newspaper Jung, prime ministers and former prime ministers have faced problems in Pakistan's history.

Earlier, PM Liyaqat Ali Khan was assassinated and Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was hanged while Benazir Bhutto was shot to death. However, this is the first time in the country's history that a former president and two former prime ministers have been detained and imprisoned in the same government. All of them are accused of corruption.

The newspaper report said that two other former PMs Yusuf Raza Gilani and Raja Pervez Ashraf are also making court rounds and making appearances for a hearing on the muscle. Former PM Nawaz Sharif has been in jail for over a year in the Al Azizia property case over corruption charges during Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party regime. Former President Asif Ali Zardari has been in jail for the past month in a money laundering case.
