New Delhi: Former minister Yaqub Qureshi and his son Imran Qureshi were arrested by the police from Chandni Mahal police station area of Delhi at around 2 am on Friday (January 6). Both father and son were living on rent in Delhi. The police team has left Delhi for Meerut with both of them. At the same time, it is discussed that after the high court rejected the bail application, Yaqub and Imran surrendered through setting.

On March 31, 2022, Kharkhoda and Kithore police raided the meat factory of Yaqub Qureshi's son Imran on Hapur Road and revealed illegal meat packing. 17 people, including Yaqub, his wife Sanjeeda Begum, sons Firoz and Imran, and manager Mohit Tyagi, were charged in the case. In this case, the police have also filed a charge sheet in the court against all the accused. However, the police had earlier announced a reward of Rs 25,000 on Yaqub and his family after they do not appear before the court. The police registered a case against Yaqub and his family under the Gangster Act a month ago.

After this, the UP Police showed one of Yaqub's sons Firoz arrested from a colony in Ghaziabad. At the same time, Yaqub and his son Imran were said to be absconding, on whom the police increased the reward to Rs 50,000. Haji Yaqub's anticipatory bail plea was also rejected by the High Court. Police arrested Yaqub and Imran from a flat in the Chandni Mahal police station area of Delhi late on Friday night. Both the accused have been lodged at Kharkhoda police station. They will be produced in court today i.e. Saturday.

Haji Yaqub Qureshi has been MLA of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) twice. He was once an MLA from the Kharkhoda assembly seat in 2002, while in 2007 he was elected MLA from Meerut city. Not only this, but he was also a minister in the Mayawati-led BSP government.
