Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Khan have been handed a seven-year prison sentence and fined for their unlawful marriage, according to a report by ARY News.

This latest ruling marks the third legal setback for the beleaguered ex-Prime Minister in the span of this week. The court found their marriage, which took place in 2018, to be in violation of the law.

Imran Khan, aged 71, is currently incarcerated and facing a series of legal challenges. Earlier this week, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the unauthorized disclosure of state secrets. Additionally, he and his wife were handed a 14-year prison term for the illegal sale of state gifts.

These developments come just days before the national elections scheduled for Thursday. However, Imran Khan is ineligible to contest in these elections due to his legal predicament.

The Toshakhana case centers on allegations of misappropriating gifts received by the state during Imran Khan's time in office. The court found both Imran Khan and his wife guilty of the charges brought against them in connection to this matter.

This is the second legal blow for the beleaguered former cricket star in recent times. He was previously convicted to three years in jail in a corruption case. Although his prison sentence was suspended as he appealed the corruption conviction, it had already barred him from participating in the upcoming general elections.

Despite efforts by Khan's legal team to secure his release from jail, where he has been held since August last year, away from the public eye, the latest conviction makes it unlikely, pending an appeal in a higher court.
