Dhaka: Bangladesh has started the process of conditionally releasing former PM Khaleda Zia from jail for six months on Tuesday amid the havoc of the Corona virus. Law Minister Anisul Haque has given information in this regard. Khalida Zia, the 74-year-old Chief of the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party, is serving 17 years imprisonment in two corruption cases since 8 February 2018.
Haque said that, 'This decision has been taken on humanitarian grounds'. He said that this decision was made in accordance with the instructions of PM Sheikh Hasina and given the age of former PM Khaleda Zia. Jia's family had demanded her release a day earlier in the wake of the coronavirus. Zia's party leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said that we welcome this decision of the government.
On Jiah's release, her younger sister Selima Islam has said, "I thank PM Sheikh Hasina". Let us tell you that 33 positive cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in Bangladesh. Due to this, 3 people have lost their lives. 5 people have also recovered from its infection. More than 4 lakh people are vulnerable in the whole world and about 18 thousand people have died.
