Chandigarh: Sixteen days after 45 cattle were seen dead under mysterious circumstances at a gaushala in Phoosgargh village run by the Karnal Municipal Corporation, the Crime Investigation Agency  of the Karnal police have arrested 4 persons for poisoning the cows.

Their names have been mentioned as Vishal, Rajat, Suraj and Sonu. Another mastermind Amar is absconding. According to the report, all the accused were earlier Hindus who converted to Christianity. These are the workers of the contractor lifting the dead cows. Due to the death of fewer cows, their business had slowed down and the income from cow's bone, skin and fat etc. had decreased. That's why they killed so many cows. Please tell that this matter is of 26 January 2023.

As per reports, this case pertains to Nagar Nigam Gaushala Nandi village under Fasmandi area of ​​Karnal. This year, on the night of January 26, cows started dying one by one. In a few days, 45 cattle died. The medical report revealed that sulfas tablets mixed with jaggery and fodder were given to the cows. 

State CM Manohar Lal Khattar had constituted a high level investigation team in this regard. The probe team has submitted its report to the government. The police team probing the matter got the information about the mobile numbers active around the cowshed on the day of the incident. During this, 5 such numbers came to the fore which had no connection with any gaushala. 

After which the police started tracing these numbers. These numbers belonged to Vishal and Amar, residents of Dera Basti, Shahabad, Kurukshetra, Rajat, resident of Mangal Colony, Karnal, Sonu, resident of Dera Basti, Ambala, and Suraj, resident of a slum in Jammu and Kashmir. Along with this, all the CCTV footage of the routes to and from the Gaushala were scanned. In these footage also, the five accused were seen coming and going on those routes on the night of the incident. After which the police, while conducting raids, arrested everyone except Amar.

During interrogation of the police, the accused told that all five of them had left Hindu religion and became Christians many years ago. Confessed to have executed this incident for smuggling of bone, fat and skin etc. He used to get 8 to 10 thousand rupees for each dead cow. Among the arrested accused, Vishal and Rajat already used to lift cows that died in the gaushala. He used to say that due to less number of cows dying, his business was getting affected. So all of them decided to kill several cows at once.

The accused have also accepted during interrogation that earlier also they have been killing 4-5 cows together by poisoning them in this gaushala. After January 15, 2023, he had done such activities 3-4 times. Deepak Mehra, husband of Rani Kamboj, a prominent leader of Karnal Mahila Congress, had got the tender to lift the dead cows from this gaushala. In return, he was getting Rs 4 lakh 23 thousand per month. The special thing is that after the killing of 45 cows, Congress leader Rani Kamboj herself was also involved in the anti-government protest in front of the gaushala, while her husband herself was involved in the massacre.
