On Wednesday, a terrible accident occurred near the parliament in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia. At least four people were killed and 10 injured in a car bomb blast near Parliament. According to eyewitnesses, after the explosion, a smog of black smoke was seen and several vehicles caught fire. The Islamic group al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the current attack following a recent attack on a US military base in Kenya by an al-Qaeda-linked group.
According to media reports, police officer Adan Abdullahi said that the explosives were packed in a vehicle. This led the security forces to think that they were trying to pass through the post, but could not do so and the suicide bomber carried out the blast there. Abdirahman Mohammed, who was present at a shop near the blast, said that he saw many dead bodies as soon as the explosion took place. He said that the sharp objects of vehicles penetrated the bodies of many people, which led to his death. There was chaos all around after the blast. The ambulance reached the spot immediately after the blast. Another eyewitness Shamso Ali said that thanks to God I was away, but I have seen smoke and many vehicles on fire.
For your information, let us tell you that Mogadishu is constantly in the grip of attacks by al-Shabaab, which has fought for more than a decade to topple the Somali government. Al-Shabaab has also succeeded in expanding its network in the region, most notably in Kenya which has faced several devastating attacks in retaliation after sending troops to Somalia in 2011. The extremist organization 'Al Shabaab' often carries out such attacks. The extremist group was repulsed several years ago from Mogadishu, but it continues to carry out such massive attacks on security checkpoints, hotels and along the seashore. Al Qaeda has control over parts of central and southern Somalia.
