Asansol: On Monday, in early hours of fourth phase of polling, a scuffle erupted between villagers and police officials near polling station in West Bengal's Asansol. The police resorted to lathicharge to contain the protesting villagers. The villagers also blocked and vandalised the vehicle of Union minister and BJP candidate from Asansol Babul Supriyo. Meanwhile, polling in eight parliamentary constituencies in West Bengal is underway in the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha elections on Monday to decide the fate of 68 candidates in the fray. Voting began at 7 am and will conclude at 6 pm.

Here it is to be noted that the eight seats which are up for grabs in this phase include- Baharampur, Krishnagar, Ranaghat, Burdwan East, Burdwan-Durgapur, Asansol, Bolpur and Birbhum. The main political parties that are in the election battle in West Bengal are the Trinamool Congress, the BJP, the Congress and the Left Front.
However, it is worth mention here that an electorate of 1,34,56,491 is eligible to cast their votes in the fourth phase of elections in the state, according to the Election Commission. On Monday, Voting has begun in the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha Elections 2019. Polling is taking place in 72 parliamentary constituencies across nine states. Voting is being held in 17 seats in Maharashtra including Mumbai, 13 each in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, eight in West Bengal, six each in Madhya Pradesh and Odisha, five in Bihar, and three in Jharkhand. Voting is also being held in a part of Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag constituency, where polling is being organised over three phases due to security reasons.
