Master filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola has unveiled the very first glimpse of his eagerly awaited movie "Megalopolis," scheduled for its debut at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.
"Megalopolis" is a futuristic tale set in a city reminiscent of ancient Rome. It tracks the journey of an architect named Caesar, portrayed by Adam Driver, who dreams of transforming New York City into a utopia after a catastrophic event.
In the debut image from this sci-fi extravaganza, Driver's Caesar is depicted engrossed in blueprints for the reconstruction of the City of New Rome, while Nathalie Emmanuel's character, Julia Cicero, the daughter of Mayor Cicero, observes.
Coppola, renowned for classics like The Godfather series, The Conversation, and Apocalypse Now, shared the snapshot on his official Instagram account, expressing his delight in providing a sneak peek of what's in store.
The film, a labor of love and self-funded venture for Coppola, will premiere at Cannes on May 17, featuring in the prestigious Competition segment. It will grace the festival with a grand gala premiere.
Apart from Driver and Emmanuel, the star-studded cast includes Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Jason Schwartzman, Dustin Hoffman, and Talia Shire. Coppola has not only directed but also written and produced the film, with Fred Roos, Barry Hirsch, and Michael Bederman serving as producers.
