New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi, addressing the nation on Monday, announced that the central government will bear the cost of vaccination for all people above 18 years of age instead of the states themselves. At the same time, the ration deadline under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyana Yojana has been extended till Diwali i.e. November. After this, sources have been quoted as saying that after the Centre's announcement, the Central Government will have to spend an additional Rs 1.45 lakh crore on vaccines and cereals.

Free vaccination on all adults in the country will cost around Rs 45,000 crore to Rs 50,000 crore. This is much more than the budget set by the government at over Rs 35,000 crore. With this, about 80 crore people will spend around Rs 1.1 lakh crore to Rs 1.3 lakh per month on 5 kg of wheat or rice and one kg of pulses. According to media reports, the central government will have to spend an additional Rs 1.45 lakh crore in this way.

PM Modi on Monday announced that all people above the age of 18 years will be vaccinated free of cost from June 21, changing the vaccination policy. At the same time, the free grain scheme deadline expired in June and has been extended to November.
