He highlighted Mariyappan's exceptional performance and expressed admiration for his enduring excellence in the sport.

India's para-athletes have made history at the Paris Paralympics by surpassing their previous medal record from Tokyo. With a total of 20 medals so far—three gold, seven silver, and 10 bronze—India has set a new record for the highest number of medals won in a single Paralympic Games. This surpasses the previous record of 19 medals achieved in Tokyo in 2021.
The Indian contingent, which includes 84 athletes competing in 12 sports, has delivered remarkable performances. The record medal haul underscores the growth of India’s para-sports ecosystem and highlights the country’s increasing prominence in the Paralympic arena.
