One of the most prestigious awards in the entertainment industry ‘The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ has announced its list of films that are eligible for a nomination at the Oscars 2023. Pan Nalin's "Chhello Show" ("Last Film Show"), India's first official Oscar entry, and now the list of other films is released.

There are three Bollywood entries from the Hindi film industry on the list namely The Kashmir Films, Gangubai Kathiawadi, and Rocketry. Besides these, it also includes Pan India film like RRR, and Kantara are eligible for the Oscars and will have to battle it out with 301 other movies. Marathi films ‘Me Vasantrao’, ‘Tujhya Sathi Kahi Hi’, ‘Iravin Nizhal’ and ‘Vikrant Rona’ are also a part of the list.

International films like ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’, ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’, ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’, ‘Elvis’, ‘The Fabelmans’ are also contenting for the 95th Oscars. There are 9,579 eligible voting members who will begin filling out their ballots from January 12. The process will end on January 17. The official Oscar nominees will be revealed on January 24.

As soon as the news catches the eyes of people the director’s of the film started expressing their excitement. The Kashmir Files', director Vivek Agnihotri tweeted, "#TheKashmirFiles has been shortlisted for #Oscars2023 in the first list of @TheAcademy . It’s one of the 5 films from India. I wish all of them very best. A great year for Indian cinema. #PallaviJoshi #MithunChakraborty @DarshanKumaar @AnupamPKher are all shortlisted for best actor categories. It’s just the beginning. A long long road ahead. Pl bless them all."

Kantara’s director and actor Rishab Shetty  wrote, "We are overjoyed to share that 'Kantara' has received 2 Oscar qualifications! A heartfelt thank you to all who have supported us. We look forward to share this journey ahead with all of your support. Can’t wait to see it shine at the  #Oscars #Kantara @hombalefilms #HombaleFilms."
