Murad's journey in films began in the 1940s and spanned over five decades, during which he acted in more than 500 films, mostly playing character roles. He was particularly known for his portrayal of legal officials, especially judges, a role he repeated in over 300 films.

Supporting Actor, Yet a Star

Despite being a part of many hit films like Andaz, Aan, Devdas, Mughal-e-Azam, Yaadon Ki Baaraat, Majboor, Kalia, and Shahenshah, Murad never got the opportunity to play a lead role. He was content playing supporting roles, but deep down, he always wanted to be a lead actor.

A Writer Turned Actor

Murad's passion was writing, but fate had other plans. He was forced to flee Rampur after participating in a protest against the Nawab, and his family reached Mumbai in just 24 hours. It was here that he met Mehboob Khan, who convinced him to become an actor instead of a writer.

Legacy Lives On

Murad's son, Raza Murad, is a successful actor in his own right, having acted in over 100 films in the past 40 years. Hamid Ali Murad passed away in 1997 at the age of 85, but his legacy lives on through his body of work and his son's achievements.
