Karva Chauth is celebrated on the 1st of November. On this day, married women fast for the long life of their husbands. Karva Chauth holds great significance in the Hindu religion. According to the Panchang, this festival is observed every year on the fourth day of the Krishna Paksha of the Kartik month. On this day, women observe a nirjala (without water) fast for the longevity of their husbands. The festival holds immense importance for the moon. Women keep a day-long fast and break it only after sighting the moon during the evening puja.

Fasting Rituals:
Before sunrise, take a bath and make a resolve for the fast. Keep a nirjala fast throughout the day and perform the worship of Lord Shiva, Parvati, Kartikeya, Ganesh, and the moon in the evening. Offer them laddoos as prasad. Offer a pot, cloth, and dakshina as per the rituals. Perform the puja with due diligence. Listen to or read the story of Karva Chauth. Worship the moon and offer arghya (water oblation) after the moonrise. Then, break the nirjala fast.

Here's how women should offer arghya to the moon on Karva Chauth:
Completing the ritual by offering arghya to the moon after sighting it is considered complete. The moonrise holds great significance on Karva Chauth. On this day, fasting women eagerly await the moon. It is considered essential to see the moon on this day. While offering arghya to the moon, women should carry a sieve that they used during the storytelling and wear the same veil. Place a diya on the sieve and see the moon through it, then immediately look at your husband through the same sieve. It is said that the tradition of placing a diya in the sieve was developed because in earlier times, when there were no street lights, women used to see their husband's face through the light of the diya placed in the sieve after seeing the moon.

Unmarried girls should follow these rules on Karva Chauth:
According to religious beliefs, unmarried girls can observe a fast by consuming fruits instead of observing nirjala fast on Karva Chauth.
Married women perform the puja of Lord Shiva, Parvati, the moon, and Ganesh during Karva Chauth, but if unmarried girls are observing this fast, they should only perform the worship of Lord Mahadev and Goddess Parvati and listen to the Karva Chauth story.
During Karva Chauth, married women use a sieve to offer arghya to the moon at night, whereas unmarried girls can worship the moon without using a sieve and break their fast.
Significance of Karva Chauth:
It is believed that observing the Karva Chauth fast prevents any kind of suffering in the husband's life. Additionally, it is believed to ensure a long life for the husband. The ritual includes worship of Shiva, Parvati, Kartikeya, Ganesh, and the moon. According to the mythological story from the Mahabharata, the Pandavas, along with Arjuna, go on a pilgrimage to the Nilgiri Mountains. On the other hand, various calamities befall the other Pandavas. Draupadi seeks a solution from Lord Sri Krishna. Sri Krishna advises her that if she observes the Karva Chauth fast on Kartik Krishna Chaturthi, she can be relieved of all these troubles. Draupadi observes the fast with all the rituals, and all her troubles are resolved.
