This spectacle has been auctioned online in the UK and it has been auctioned by the East Bristol Auction Agency. It has been bought by a person for Rs 2.55 crore. The auction time was only 6 minutes. The person who bought the glasses has been identified as a collector in America. Before the auction of glasses, it was expected that it would be sold for more than Rs 14 lakh, but as soon as the bidding started, the auction of glasses went above Rs 2 crore.

According to a report released by the BBC, "Auctioneer Andrew Stowe said it was a new record for East Bristol Auctions and described it as the star lot of the century. After getting the glasses in the envelope, he contacted his boss and explained its importance". Apart from this, the owner of this spectacle says that in 1920, a member of his family met Gandhi during a tour of South Africa and the glasses went from him to the next generation.
