NEW DELHI: The 10-day major Ganesh festival celebrations across the nation began today, kicking off the holiday season and raising expectations for large business this year among the business sector.

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has renewed its campaign to boycott Chinese goods with the help of this festival. As per estimates, more than 20 crore Ganesh idols are bought throughout the nation each year, generating an estimated revenue of more than Rs 300 crore, said CAIT's National President B.C. Bhartia and Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal.

They said, the practise of placing Lord Ganesh idols made of eco-friendly materials in significant numbers all around the nation has been increasingly popular over the past two years.

The local craftsmen, artisans, and potters working in their homes across cities all over the country with the help of their family women make idols from clay and cow dung, which are easily immersed, as opposed to the large quantities of Ganesha idols that were previously imported from China due to their low prices made of plaster of paris, stone, marble, and other materials.

They added that eco-friendly idols are being made that, instead of being submerged, are combined with plants and trees, which also doesn't affect the environment. Because of these idols, lakhs of people get business across the country.
