A shocking incident comes to light where a woman was set on fire for opposing rape. This incident comes to light from Ranchi where a young woman who was set on fire by four men after she resisted a rape attempt on January 7.

As per the information, Three of the four accused who tried to rape the woman, a native of Jharkhand's Hazaribag, were members of her husband's family. They poured petrol over her head and set her on fire when she refused their sexual advance. The 23-year-old victim herself told about the incident to Police.  As of now the victim was undergoing treatment at the state capital's Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) after she suffered 70% burn injuries in the attack.

As of now no arrests were made in connection with the incident so far despite the Hazaribag police forming a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the incident. The Police officers says there is a lack of concrete evidence against the accused as the reason for delayed arrests. They had, in the course of the investigation, found mismatches in the statements given by the victim from the hospital be.The four accused named by the girl included a woman, the sister of her husband. Among the three others named by her, two were the sons of this woman.

The victim had claimed that she was rescued by locals who rushed to her residence after hearing her screams, the husband told the police this is not true.  The victim’s husband was married thrice before, told the police that it was he who doused the flames that had engulfed his wife. This has put the man on the suspects' list. The police official said, "The allegations made in the FIR by the victim did not match with our initial investigation. We are yet to find any evidence against the accused. So, we are waiting for the FSL's (forensic science laboratory) report to reach any conclusion.”
