New Delhi: The Supreme Court has asked the Karnataka High Court to decide on the bail plea of one of the accused in the activist-journalist Gauri Lankesh murder case without being influenced by the quashing order. Gauri Lankesh's sister Kavita Lankesh has filed a petition challenging the quashing of organized crime charges against accused Mohan Nayak.

During the hearing of this petition, the Supreme Court has sought a response from the Karnataka government. A three-judge bench headed by Justice AM Khanwilkar issued notices to the Karnataka government and others and asked them to respond to Kavita's plea against the high court's order. Justice Dinesh Maheshwari and Justice Aniruddha Bose were also part of this bench.

The bench said that notices should be issued to the applicants seeking interim relief and permission to file a special leave petition. It said, "After hearing the arguments of counsel for respondent no.6, we are of the view that the petition filed by respondent no.6 before the High Court should be decided without being affected by the judgment which has been challenged."
