Lucknow: Gayatri Prasad Prajapati, who was a minister in key departments like Transport, Mining and Irrigation in the Samajwadi Party government, has been convicted by a Lucknow court of a heinous crime like gang rape. A Special Court has convicted a Woman from Chitrakoot in connection with the gang rape of a woman MLA MP, Lucknow. Prajapati's accomplices Ashok Tiwari and Ashish Shukla were also found guilty in the case. The court will pronounce the sentence in the case on Friday, November 12, 2021.

The court has also acquitted the accused Vikas Verma, Rupeshwar, Amarendra Singh, Pintu and Chandra pal. All the accused were given an opportunity to provide oral evidence, which expired only on 2nd November 2021. Former minister Gayatri Prajapati had filed an application in the court on Tuesday requesting for an extension of the period. He has asked that the date of the case be extended. He has also filed a 'Special Permission Petition' in the Supreme Court seeking transfer of the case to another state.

The MP-MLA court's order has been challenged in the Allahabad High Court, Lucknow Bench, which dismissed a petition seeking evidence of his defence. On November 8, 2021, a petition was filed by the prosecution requesting the court that witness Anshu Gaur in his statement has categorically stated that the victim was persuaded not to give proper testimony in the court by luring him with the registry of several lands and huge sums of money. An attempt was made to influence the victim.
