At the 10th Google for India event, Google introduced several new AI-powered features. One of the standout announcements was the launch of the Gemini Live AI assistant in multiple Indian languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, and Urdu.
What Is Gemini Live?
Gemini Live is an AI assistant that allows users to engage in natural, voice-based conversations without needing to type or rely on on-screen prompts. It functions similarly to the voice feature found in GPT-4o on ChatGPT but supports up to 10 different voices. One unique feature of Gemini Live is that it enables users to pause mid-conversation, making interactions smoother and more lifelike.
In addition, Gemini Live offers hands-free functionality, allowing users to communicate with the AI even when the app is running in the background or the phone is locked.
Initially introduced during the launch of Google’s Pixel 9 series in August, the feature was only accessible to Gemini Advanced users. However, Google has now made Gemini Live available to all Android users, providing broader access to this innovative tool.
For those who may not know, Gemini Live is a smartphone-based AI-powered chatbot that allows users to interact with Google's Gemini AI model. Google first announced Gemini Live in August of this year. The company stated, “You can keep talking with the Gemini app in the background or when your phone is locked, so you can carry on your conversation on the go, just like you might on a regular phone call.” Initially, Gemini Live was only available to Gemini Advanced subscribers and exclusively in English. Now, Google has expanded its support to include Hindi. It remains unclear whether this feature will be limited to Gemini Advanced users or if it will be made available to all users in the future.
