Former Germany striker Mario Gomez has retired from football after promoting his club Stuttgart in the Bundesliga League. Despite suffering a 1-3 defeat in their final league match against Darmstadt, Stuttgart's team remained in second place in the Bundesliga 2 mark and won the top division promotion.

This time Sky Sports quoted Gomez as saying, "I am very grateful to the club for all the time I spent in Stuttgart. I always dreamed of doing something for the club." This was Stuttgart's second deal with Gomez. Earlier, he was associated with the club from 2003 to 2009, when he won the Bundesliga title with the club in the 2006–07 season.

After leaving Stuttgart in 2009, he was associated with Bayern Munich and by 2013 he was there and won many titles with the team. He also won the Champions League title with Bayern Munich in 2012–13. Gomez was also part of the German national team, which finished third in the 2010 FIFA World Cup. In fact, due to injury, he did not become part of Germany's World Cup-winning team in 2014. Gomez played 78 matches for Germany from 2007 to 2018, scoring 31 goals.
