Bemoaning Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence on Kashmir, leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad said never before has there been continuous curfew anywhere in the country for 30 days.
“The crown of India is burning and no one feels the heat”,Azad said while raising the issue during zero hour. He demanded a statement from the PM, an all-party meeting as well as a visit by an all-party delegation to J&k Chief minister Mehbooba Mufti.
While speaking at a rally in Madhya Pradesh, Modi said his government was following the path set by former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee - an apparent answer to J&K chief minister Mehbooba Mufti who had raised the point.
Azad was supported by the entire opposition, which also demanded end to the use of pellet guns by security forces as well as an immediate discussion on the issue in Parliament.
Deputy Chairman P J Kurien asked the government why a discussion couldn't take place. To this, minister of state for parliamentary affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said the government wasn't averse to a discussion on the issue.
