NEW DELHI:  A 19-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by her maternal granduncle in Bhalswa Dairy in Outer North Delhi, Police said on Wednesday.

A senior police official mentioned that they have registered a rape case in this matter.

"The youngster said that on Tuesday, Mohammed Amrish, her maternal granduncle, raped her.  The accused was accompanied by a friend.  The official said, we took the girl to a nearby government hospital where she was made to undergo a medical test. After getting her medical report, we lodged a rape case."

The accused, according to a police source, was fired from Tihar Jail after being involved in an alleged fraud case. The police responded when questioned that they will confirm it with the Tihar authorities.

The accused allegedly tried to sexually assault the girl around a year ago, but no charges were filed and the incident was kept quiet, the girl told reporters.

"Amrish arrived with a support person. He assaulted me after pushing me into the space. If I told anyone and ran away, he threatened me with terrible consequences. I told my mother about the incident when she got home about 4 p.m., and she made the decision to call the police "said the victim.

The police mentioned that they were looking into the matter.
