New Delhi: The first drug for the treatment of coronavirus is coming soon in the Indian market. Glenmark Pharmaceuticals has been approved to manufacture and market Favipiravir, an antiviral drug for the coronavirus. The company makes this medicine under the name of FabiFlu. A full strip of 34 tablets will be available for Rs 3,500, that is, one tablet will cost around Rs 103. The drug FabiFlu will be used in the treatment of patients with mild to moderate symptoms. This medicine will be available in hospitals and medical stores on prescription.
Glenmark conducted a clinical trial of medicine on 90 patients with mild symptoms and 60 patients with moderate symptoms. This drug enters the patient's cells and prevents the virus from copying itself to reduce the viral load. That drug is effective in preventing the spread of virus in the body in the initial stage of infection. According to the researchers, FabiFlu should be used in the initial phase of infection. In the latter stage, virus replication (rate of copying itself) slows down. The violent immune response of the body causes many problems and the organ becomes a failure.
According to the company, the patient should be given 9 tablets of 200mg on the first day. Inspection should be done by feeding 4-4 tablets of 200mg from the next day. Clinical trial results show that 80% of patients have shown the effect of this drug. The Drug Controller General of India (DGCI) has approved this drug in the emergency category due to the epidemic. In such cases, patients will have to give an undertaking before taking medicine. Glanmark is the first such company to bring oral antiviral drugs for mild and moderate corona patients.
