New Delhi: Leaders from the P-5 countries, including US President Joe Biden, Russian President Vladimir Putin, UK PM Rishi Sunak, and French President Emmanuel Macron, have extended their congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his historic third term victory following the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance's triumph in the Lok Sabha elections.
Biden, in a statement, congratulated Modi and the NDA on their victory, highlighting the growing friendship between the US and India. Putin was the first to telephone Modi among the P-5 leaders. Meanwhile, Macron sent a congratulatory message, expressing his desire to strengthen the strategic partnership between India and France.
The Kremlin, in a readout, noted that Putin warmly congratulated Modi and expressed satisfaction with the special and privileged strategic partnership between Russia and India. UK PM Rishi Sunak tweeted about the close friendship between the UK and India and their shared future.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Netherlands PM Mark Rutte also conveyed their congratulations to Modi. Earlier, leaders from Japan, Italy, Singapore, Malaysia, Denmark, Israel, Kenya, and presidents from Iran, Indonesia, Taiwan, and South Korea, along with several leaders from the Caribbean and India’s immediate neighbourhood, had also congratulated PM Modi on his election victory.
Italian PM Giorgia Meloni mentioned the continuation of India-Italy ties under Modi's leadership and extended warm wishes for future cooperation. Modi has been invited to the G7 Summit in Italy scheduled for June 14-15.
Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning congratulated Modi and the BJP on their victory, emphasizing that a healthy and stable China-India relationship is in the common interest of both countries.
Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina, known for her strong chemistry with Modi, wrote a letter praising Modi’s electoral success. From the Indian Ocean Region, PM of Mauritius Pravind Kumar Jugnauth congratulated Modi on his victory, highlighting the special relationship between Mauritius and India.
Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu sent a message normalizing bilateral relations after months of anti-India rhetoric, expressing his desire to work together for shared prosperity and stability.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu extended warm congratulations and hoped for further growth in India-Israel relations. Taiwan President Lai Ching-te expressed eagerness to enhance the Taiwan-India partnership in various sectors.
Iran’s interim President Mohammad Mokhber and leaders from Nigeria, Kenya, and Comoros also extended their congratulations to Modi, hoping for continued expansion of ties in his third term.
