Washington: US Indian-American MP Pramila Jayapal has received a threat to return to India. She said that a man has sent her objectionable and hateful messages on the phone. He has also asked her to go back to India. Chennai-born Jayapal on Thursday shared five such audio messages on her social media account.

Those parts of this message have been edited, in which obscene and abusive language has been used. It can be clearly heard in this message that a man is threatening MP Pramila with dire consequences. Asking her to go back to her country of origin, India. Pramila is the first Indian-American MP to represent Seattle in the US House of Representatives. She wrote in a tweet "I chose to do this (share the message) here because we can't accept violence as the new normal for us. We also cannot accept the racism and sexism that is inherent in and encourages this violence.''
Earlier in the summer, a man appeared with a pistol outside the Seattle MP's residence. Police identified the man as Brett Forsell, who was arrested. There have been several such cases of hate crimes against the Indian-American community in the US.
