ISLAMABAD: The Pakistani government has approved 3 billion Pakistani rupees (USD 13 million) in funding to help those impacted by the devastating floods.

The Finance Ministry said in a statement that at a meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee of the cabinet, it was determined that the government will offer the money to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) for relief supplies, rescue operations, and rehabilitation of the flood-affected people.

To ensure a seamless delivery of essential commodities afflicted population, the government will also give utility retailers 540 million PKR in the flood-stricken areas. The utility stores have actively participated in relief efforts by working with provincial governments to provide basic food goods in flood-affected areas.

According to the report, 113,700 ration bags totaling 540 million PKR will be distributed to the flood-affected families due to the emergency circumstances and based on a preliminary assessment of their needs.

According to the latest NDMA update, the death toll from the devastating floods that were caused by nonstop rain from mid-June was 1,391 as of Friday, with 12,722 other people injured. In addition, 1,739,166 homes have been demolished, and 754,708 cattle deaths are thought to have occurred.

The NDMA update also disclosed that 663,869 additional people are currently residing in camps, while 177,265 people have been rescued.

Under the flood-affected districts, rescue and relief activities are now in progress.

Pakistan news agency Associated Press reported that the utility stores have taken an active part in the relief operations of supplying essential food items in flood-affected areas in collaboration with provincial governments.
