PANAJI: The monsoon session of the Goa legislative Assembly was thrown into disarray on Tuesday, leading to a temporary adjournment of the session. The opposition members caused a commotion, demanding an immediate discussion on the recent collapse of a section of the iconic Kala Academy building.

As the House convened for the opening day at 11.30 a.m., the opposition wasted no time in pressing for a discussion on the matter of the Kala Academy's open auditorium, which suffered a partial collapse just the day before.

The opposition MLAs swiftly moved adjournment motions, seeking the suspension of the question hour to address the urgent issue concerning the Kala Academy. However, their pleas were rejected by Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar.

Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, accompanied by Vijai Sardesai and other opposition members, resorted to displaying placards and took to the well, vehemently demanding a discussion, emphasizing the importance of the matter at hand.

Despite Chief Minister Pramod Sawant's assurance to deliver a statement after the question hour, the opposition benches stood unwavering in their demands, which ultimately led Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar to adjourn the House for a duration of 30 minutes.

Yuri Alemao, the leader of the opposition in the Goa Assembly, squarely held Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Art & Culture Minister Govind Gaude responsible for the unfortunate collapse of the renovated Kala Academy's open auditorium. He further called for their resignation.

It is worth noting that while defending the state government's decision to appoint a contractor for the Kala Academy's renovation work without floating a tender, Gaude made a controversial statement in July last year, drawing a parallel to the construction of the Taj Mahal by Shah Jahan.

Gaude had remarked, "Taj Mahal was built between 1632 and 1653. Do you know why it still stands magnificently after all these years? Because Shah Jahan never sought quotations for its construction. That's why the Taj Mahal remains intact even after 400 years."

The opposition has raised serious allegations of corruption surrounding the renovation project of the Kala Academy, considering it to be a major scam.
