PANAJI: Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Friday that his government will ask the State Election Commission for more time to conduct a triple test exercise to simplify ward reservation for OBC voters.
The triple test entails the commission acquiring realistic statistics on the state's OBC population.

"We do not have the authority to postpone the election; the State Election Commission must decide," he stated.
If the state holds panchayat elections today, Sawant claims that seats for OBCs will not be reserved. "That is something we do not want to do. We intend to grant OBCs a 27% reservation. On the recent Supreme Court decision, I sought the advice of the Advocate General "he said.

Sawant stated that his government will suggest to the SEC that the elections in 186 village panchayats be postponed in order to complete the triple test through the OBC commission."If the SEC gives us time, we'll ask the OBC Commission to finish the triple test," he said. "We will send the report to the SEC for further action after the OBC commission issues its report," he said.
