Panaji: After Maharashtra, the political turmoil in Goa has now begun. Former Goa Congress unit chief Girish Chodankar has alleged that the party's MLAs have been offered Rs 40 crore to join the BJP. The statement came amid the possibility of at least six MLAs led by former Goa CM Digambar Kamat taking on the BJP. Goa AICC in-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao said that Michael Lobo has been removed from the post of leader of the opposition.

Congress Goa in-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao has said that the BJP was trying to divide 2/3, so that at least 8 of our MLAs would go away. Many of our people have been offered huge amounts of money. I am surprised by the amount offered, but our six MLAs stood firm, I am proud of them. According to Chodankar, calls are being made to Congress MLAs by industrialists and coal mafias. Chodankar claimed that some of the MLAs contacted had informed Congress' Goa in-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao about it.

However, the BJP has vehemently denied the allegations. Goa BJP unit president Sadanand Tandade said the Congress was making "baseless allegations about contacting MLAs and offering money". He added that this is what they have all been doing, and there is no truth in these things. The Goa BJP has nothing to do with the confusion created in the Congress and we have not heard anything from our party in this regard.
