The second wave of corona virus has led to shortage of oxygen, hospital beds and essential medicines in most parts of India. In Goa also, the infected have lost their lives due to lack of oxygen. State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said on Tuesday, "26 infected people have lost their lives between 2-6 am in GMCH on Tuesday. On Monday, 1200 jumbo oxygen cylinders were required, out of which only 400 were supplied, which led to shortage of oxygen. '

The Health Minister further said that if there is a shortage of medical oxygen supply, there is a need to discuss to address this shortage. He said the state government has formed a 3-member team of nodal officers to monitor the treatment of covid patients in GMCH and they should inform the CM about the situation.

A total of 1,21,650 cases of covid infection have been reported in Goa till May 10 and 1,729 people have lost their lives due to infection. It may be recalled that state CM Pramod Sawant had taken stock of corona ward in GMCH and met patients. The CM had said that the problems with oxygen in these wards need to be addressed. The Chief Minister said that we have enough medical oxygen. There is no dearth of it in the State. He announced to set up a ward-wise mechanism to ensure supply of medical oxygen.
