Panaji, Goa: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant extended heartfelt greetings to the people on the occasion of Goa Revolution Day, commemorating the historic events of June 18, 1946. On this significant day, Dr. Sawant recalled the pivotal role of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia, a prominent nationalist and freedom fighter, who arrived in Goa and ignited the flames of liberation from colonial rule.

Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia's impassioned call for freedom resonated deeply with the Goan populace, inspiring them to rise against the Portuguese colonial regime. Dr. Sawant emphasized the bravery of Goan leaders like Dr. Juliao Menezes and others who supported Dr. Lohia's mission, laying the foundation for the fight for Goa's freedom.

The Chief Minister highlighted the historical significance of Goa Revolution Day, marking the valorous stand of Goans in asserting their desire for independence. Their relentless struggle ultimately led to Goa's Liberation from Portuguese rule, a momentous event etched in the annals of history.

"Today, we honor the sacrifices of our freedom fighters who fearlessly laid down their lives for the cause of a free Goa. Their selfless contributions inspire us to rededicate ourselves to the progress of Goa, ensuring it marches forward in all aspects of life with peace and harmony," Dr. Sawant remarked.

He called upon everyone to unite and strive towards achieving the vision of a developed India and Goa by 2047, echoing the theme of "Viksit Bharat, Viksit Goa."

What is Goa Revolution Day?

Goa Revolution Day is celebrated annually on June 18th to commemorate the historic arrival of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia in Goa in 1946. Dr. Lohia, a renowned freedom fighter, played a crucial role in igniting the spark of liberation among the Goan people against the Portuguese colonial rule. His impassioned speeches and calls for freedom galvanized the Goan populace to rise up and assert their right to self-determination.
